Austin Fine Dining -- Contigo

Yesterday at the bank, the girl helping me with a wire transfer commented on my address. She thought she might know guy who lives across the hall. Me: "Tall, dark hair, tattoos? Has a girlfriend with a teacup Yorkie?" Her: "What? I knew it! I knew he had a girlfriend. That jerk." Umm, Austin is a small town.

But Contigo, a new restaurant on Anchor Lane typifies everything wonderful about Austin's small town vibe. A girl who manages Royal Blue Grocery on 3rd did the decor so I heard about the soft opening one morning while picking up coffee and a breakfast taco. Ann is so talented! The restaurant is chic but welcoming with indoor/outdoor seating on a wood deck lit by strands of white lights. Food is delicious but not too fussy, and the menu is short which I find relaxing when my options are limited to amazing and perfect.

My favorite dish was the crispy green beans ($6) followed closely by the cheddar grilled cheese on house-made brioche ($7). We sipped on Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale ($4), picked out by Mike, the very friendly bartender who knows everything about the Austin beer scene and is happy to share with anyone clever enough to inquire about a beer's "finish."

Relaxed late into the night on fabulous chairs made locally and designed by Ann. I was charmed...and the bill was $25.
